What is the difference between a client referred by Tattooed and one who is already yours?

Only clients brought to you through assignment incur a commission. Tattooed charges nothing for your own clients, even when they pay a deposit.

Two appointment books open side by side on a studio workbench, one new and the other worn from use.

Tattooed distinguishes four sources for an appointment, and only one means that the platform found the client for you: assignment. This is the only source subject to a commission. The other three, your booking page, quotes you send, and sessions you record yourself, concern your own clients. Tattooed charges nothing for them, even when a deposit is paid.

The four sources and what they mean

Assignment. A client who came through the Tattooed process approved a design, described their project, and chose among the three professionals presented by the platform.

Your booking page. Someone opens your public link from your Instagram account, a business card, or word of mouth and requests a time slot. Tattooed did not bring you this person. It provided your calendar. You accept or decline the request.

An accepted quote. You suggest a price and date in a conversation with a client who came through your page or whom you added to a project. The session is created when the client accepts, and you can include a deposit.

A session you add. A regular client, someone who walked into the studio, or the next session for a tattoo already in progress. You add the appointment to your calendar so it accurately reflects your schedule.

What Tattooed charges and what it applies to

For an assignment, the deposit is required and Tattooed deducts a commission from it. For a quote, the deposit is optional. If there is one, the client pays it in the app, and the full amount is paid out to you with no commission. A request made through your page without a quote, or a session you record yourself, does not involve an online payment.

In every case, the balance paid at the studio never goes through Tattooed. A payment link credits your account directly, with no commission.

What the source changes in your calendar

Nothing, by design. A busy time slot is a busy time slot. An appointment made through your page or recorded manually blocks automatic assignment just as reliably as an assigned session. Adding your own clients to Tattooed therefore protects your schedule instead of exposing it.

However, note the "I’m available for new requests" switch under "Calendar", in the "Settings" tab. It closes both channels at once: assignment and your public page. To close only the page, use "Page visible online" under "My page", in the "Configuration" tab.

What the source does not change: your reliability score

Your score is recalculated using your complete appointment history, regardless of where appointments came from. A completed session raises it, whether it came from Tattooed or your own client base. A late cancellation or a no-show on your part lowers it in the same way for your own client. This score then affects which requests Tattooed offers you.

What does not apply to every session

  • Payouts. Without a deposit, there is nothing to pay out. You collect anything your client pays you directly.
  • No-show reports. A report is rejected for an appointment without a deposit, with a message explaining why. A no-show involving a client without a deposit is a matter between you and the client.
  • Disputes and arbitration. The reason is the same: they concern a deposit held by Tattooed.
  • Messages to the client. A session you record yourself does not trigger any notification. The person did not request anything from Tattooed and usually does not have an account. You need to notify them. A request from your page creates a client account in the process and follows the product's usual notification flow.
  • The proof file by client. This requires an account. A client recorded manually does not have one, so you export their consent forms one session at a time.

The first three mechanisms follow the deposit, not the source. An accepted quote with a deposit is eligible for them just like an assignment.

The second session of a project referred by Tattooed

A tattoo completed over several sessions only goes through assignment once. You add the following sessions to your calendar yourself, so their source is "Recorded by you", while the client remains a client referred by Tattooed. The deposit was paid for the first session, and nothing is deducted a second time.
