Why can the estimated duration change on the day of my appointment?
The session duration is estimated before your appointment, without seeing your skin in person. Your artist determines the actual duration on the day.
Because the estimate shown before your appointment is calculated from your photo and approved design, without the tattoo artist having examined your skin in person. Your artist determines the actual duration on the day of the session.
This estimate comes from the design you approved in the app. When you book directly with a tattoo artist, there is no estimate: the artist tells you the duration, and you agree on it together.
How the estimate is calculated
After you approve the design, Tattooed calculates a duration range based on the body area, the size of the design, and its complexity. This range is kept within set limits: a value that is too low or too high is automatically corrected before it is shown to you, so it remains within a reasonable range. If the calculation fails, a fallback table based on area and size takes over. The process never stops because an estimate is unavailable.

What the estimate cannot account for
The estimate does not know the actual texture of your skin or the details that only an in-person examination can reveal. Your artist assesses these factors during the session, so the actual duration may fall outside the range shown before the appointment.
What this changes for the deposit
The deposit is calculated using the low end of the estimated range before the session. It is not recalculated if the actual duration differs from the estimate. What you paid is still deducted from the final price, whether the session is shorter or longer than expected. You pay the final price for the service directly to the tattoo artist.
Your artist can record the actual duration
When closing the session, your artist can enter the actual duration. This is optional and helps refine future estimates. It has no effect on the deposit you already paid.
