Why is my design locked after I confirm it?
Confirming a design triggers the duration estimate, deposit calculation, and artist assignment. Changing it afterward would invalidate all three.
Because everything that follows depends on the exact design you approved: the estimated duration, the deposit amount, and the artists suggested to you. Changing it afterward would make this information inaccurate, with nothing to recalculate it automatically.
This lock only exists in the app process because the design determines the duration, deposit, and suggested artists. A booking made directly with an artist does not lock anything. You discuss the drawing with the artist before and during the session.
What approval triggers in sequence
As soon as you approve a render, Tattooed starts a duration estimate based on that exact design, its size, and its placement. This estimate is then used to calculate your deposit. The artists suggested to you are also ranked in part by how well the approved design's style matches the styles professionals have listed. A different design could mean a different duration, a different deposit, and different artists who are better suited to the new style.

Locking the design when you approve it ensures that the deposit you pay truly matches the piece you are getting and that the selected artist is a good fit for that exact design.
What this means in practice
Once approved, a project cannot return to generation, even if you still had attempts available. You cannot make a touch-up after this point or change the design within the same project.
If you no longer want the design
There is no way to change a design that has already been approved in the current project. If you change your mind before paying the deposit, the only option is to abandon this project and start a new one, with a new description and a new generation quota. The previous design is not carried over to the new project.
If the deposit has already been paid and the appointment confirmed, the design remains the one you approved. It was the basis for selecting the artist and reserving the duration of your session in their calendar. Any change to the design at this stage must be discussed directly with the artist on the day of the appointment, as with any tattoo project.
Why this is not an arbitrary restriction
Locking the design is not a needless technical restriction. It is what keeps the duration estimate, deposit amount, and artist assignment consistent with one another. Without it, Tattooed could assign you a professional based on a design you later changed, with a deposit calculated for a piece that is no longer the one they need to create.
